How we created a Fin-tech mobile app for next billion gig-workers
Vahan (India) is set to move at godspeed, on a journey to build a product for the next billion users. This Y-Combinator backed company is already on the path of transforming financial lives of gig-workers / blue collar workforce in india via Mitra (means ‘friend’ in hindi) app which is geared to solve their financial management woes in the kind of work they do.
Our Approach
The challenge was to design an app for users with lower literacy levels, preferring visuals over text. We also added bilingual support (English and Hindi) with on-screen instructions to guide users through navigation. Extensive user research shaped the app's simplicity and accessibility.
What We Did
From the start, we focused on clear user journeys with one call-to-action per screen, prioritizing visuals and minimizing text. This made the app user-friendly and easy to navigate.
Challenges
Understanding the unique needs of gig workers was crucial. Every design choice was driven by research and testing to create an intuitive experience.
Outcome
The Mitra app successfully provided gig and blue-collar workers with an accessible financial management tool, thanks to a thoughtful, research-driven design.
